Fast 4: New Additions
It's new book time at my library which means... I get to steal all of the good new books and then stress about how little time I have to read them! I limited myself and only stole 3 new books, but I figured I would go on a mini freakout about 4 of the new books at my library that I'm planning to run away with ASAP.
1. Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe, Book 2)
I have been waiting for this book since I got it on vacation with 3 other hardcovers and had to lug it with me (as a hardcover) all the way home. I almost had to leave some clothes behind, but it would have totally been worth it. I thought the first book was a really interesting take on what the future could be like with no natural deaths. I loved the characters, the plot, the world, everything about the first book, and I am so excited for this one as a sequel. Plus I would really like to resolve that cliffhanger (urg, cliffhangers!) Also it took me AGES to figure out that the title refers to the literal Thunderhead in the first book. Duh. (And by figure out I mean the inside flap had to give me a sharp push in the right direction)
2. La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust, Book 1)
I'm one of those people who judges a book by its cover. With so many books on the shelves, it's hard not to pick my next read by either title or cover, and for this one the cover caught my eye. But when I read the blurb, I knew that I was sold. There are spies, mysteries, dæmons, and just what sounds like a bucket full of goodness in general. I didn't realize until recently that it's a "beside series" for a series that I haven't read yet... but my theory is that I will read this one, and if I like it, read the other series. Because why do it the "right" way when you can do it backwards and perhaps confuse yourself. Patience is not my strong suit. I want this book, and I want it now.
3. This Mortal Coil (This Mortal Coil, Book 1)
This is also another book that I was attracted to simply because of the cover and title. Who doesn't like explosions? Once again, I read the blurb and decided that one way or another, I was getting my hands on a copy of this book. First of all, there are hackers. I love hackers. If it weren't for the fact that a) I can't code at all and b) the whole legality part of it, I would totally be a hacker. But programming crushed any tiny trace of that dream. I love the idea of futuristic gene altering, and this is part of a series (!) which means that if I love it, there are more!
4. Everless
Secrets. Mystery. Insane elite upper class that ruins the lives of those less fortunate. The blurb sounded like many of the other books that I read normally (that’s a good thing) and so I was immediately interested. I’ve also seen it all over Goodreads and I figured that I should read it and see what all the hype is about. I haven’t gotten my hands on it yet, but I saw it being prepared for processing so I’m ready!
The hard part has been waiting so long for these books to come to the library, since some of them have been out for a while, but I’m definitely excited to get reading. Hopefully this weekend! Are there any other books I should be looking out for?
