(Late) 2017 Wrap Up!
Once again, late to the party, but better late than never... right?
2017 was an interesting year for me reading-wise, mostly because I wouldn't read for a week straight, and then I would just binge read for the next couple days. One of my goals for 2018 is to be more consistent, so we will see how that goes.
I have a quick take (which is literally just a list of statistics, and I'm keeping a more detailed record this year so that I can have more for my 2018 wrap up), a little random section, and then a complete list of all the books I read in 2017 at the bottom because... I like lists!

Random Section!
I set my Goodreads goal extremely low in 2017, and as a result I felt great halfway through the year when I met it. Come December, however, and it was hard to drag myself through the final books of the year. Some of it was just because I managed to pick a couple less-than-wonderful books in a row, and some of it was because I just needed 2017 to be over. Also, sleep. I needed sleep. (I say this as I'm typing this in the early hours of the morning because what is sleep?)
My rating system also changed around the end of 2017 because I realized that I was being way too harsh on genres that I don't normally read. I was judging contemporaries or romances against science fiction and fantasy, when I'm obviously partial to one of those genres over the others. So I tried to account for that in my new system, and judging it not only by how I felt about it, but also by how it compared to other books I had read in that genre. That's not to say that I gave books that I hated 5 stars because they were a different genre than I normally read, but I might have rounded up a half a star, or bumped it from a 2 to a 3.
Also, everybody admire how low my average rating was. And is. Right now I'm at a whopping 3.29 stars as an average rating (although as I look around I'm not the only one in the low 3-stars average boat, so that's reassuring.)
I was most surprised that I wound up liking Girl Against the Universe, since realistic is generally not my thing. I read it through a "blind date with a book" program, and loved it so much that I tried reading other realistic novels for a while. That didn't last long (obviously), but it made me realize that I CAN like other genres besides science fiction and fantasy.
*Gasp*
I had a lot of disappointing reads this year, which didn't necessarily surprise me, but I was really sad about Dorothy Must Die. This was before I realized that it was okay not to finish a series if you hated the first book, and so I dragged myself through all of the books and was really sad and irritated. I had been looking forward to that series for so long, and had been so excited to read it, and then it was just... not great. So not my happiest moment of all time.
For 2018 I have set a more realistic Goodreads goal (which I am already behind on), and just might try and read more genres outside of my little box.
I like my box though. It's comfortable.
